The Lagos State Government has taken action by arresting 27 individuals suspected of vandalizing the pillars of the Festac-Alakija bridge. This move follows reports of damage to the newly built bridge that connects Festac Town and Alakija.
The arrests were made during a late-night joint operation conducted by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) task force after officials discovered the vandalism affecting essential parts of the bridge.

According to a post on X from Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, this operation was initiated under the directive of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The goal was to address environmental violations, illegal parking areas, roadside trade, and other illicit activities along the Lagos-Badagry Transnational Highway.
The commissioner noted that investigations indicated that the arrested individuals had intentionally removed important structural materials from the bridge.
“Investigations showed that suspected troublemakers intentionally damaged vital parts of the bridge by taking away iron rods, steel reinforcements, cables, and other materials necessary for the structure’s stability.”
