Activist and presidential hopeful Omoyele Sowore has voiced his disapproval of the decision to have 10-year-old Alimot Osunbunmi carry the revered Arugba at today’s Osun-Osogbo Festival in Osun State, August 7.
As part of the festival’s rituals, Alimot was chosen to carry the sacred calabash during the annual procession to the Osun Sacred Grove. The organizers hailed her participation as a significant moment in history, noting that she is the youngest person to ever fulfill this role.

Alimot was appointed through traditional Ifa divination in March 2025, taking over from Osuntomi Ewatomi, who served in the esteemed position for 12 years until her marriage ended her tenure.
In response to the choice of a child to carry the sacred calabash, Sowore contended that at her young age, Alimot is not in a position to give informedconsent.
