LagRide is intensifying its preparations for the 2026 Ember Rush by launching 400 new vehicles throughout its Lagos network and aiming to onboard more than 1,000 additional Captains by December, in anticipation of increased mobility demands during the peak season.
At the recent LagRide 2026 Driver Mobilisation and Fleet Flag-Off event at the company’s Center in Alausa, Lagos, over 100 newly appointed Captains received their vehicles, marking the first phase of this expansion initiative.

The rollout of the 400 new vehicles will proceed in stages, with more Captains joining the platform as LagRide enhances accessibility in Lagos in preparation for the Ember Months and the busy December period. The company anticipates facilitating over 200,000 rides during this time, driven by heightened activities in business, tourism, entertainment, airport traffic, events, and the year-end social calendar in Lagos.
Mildred Ekanem, the Executive Director of LagRide Nigeria, noted that this significant deployment builds on the company’s existing operational presence, with over 2,000 LagRide vehicles already in service in Lagos. “We are expanding from a solid foundation. The 400 vehicles deployed are part of our immediate growth strategy, targeting the addition of over 1,000 Captains by December to meet rising demand during the Ember Months,” she stated.
The focus for LagRide’s Ember Rush initiative is to enhance service availability, make it more rewarding, and appeal to customers from September to December. The company is also extending its reach into communities such as FESTAC, Ikorodu, and Ajah, while boosting the number of Captains in existing areas to improve ride availability and minimize wait times.

During this period, LagRide will introduce a variety of customer promotions, discounted rides, rewards, special offers, and other benefits, coinciding with significant events and the festive Detty December season. These efforts will be supported by ongoing community engagement activities conducted by the LagRide team in Lagos.
The goal is to provide Lagos residents and visitors with compelling reasons to choose LagRide during the Ember Months by enhancing vehicle availability, expanding service coverage, offering competitive promotions, rewarding customers, and ensuring 24-hour support.
With the deployment of additional vehicles and Captains, LagRide aims to achieve its target of over 200,000 rides during the Ember push, before fully transitioning the campaign to LagRide Detty December by December, which will feature increased Captain availability and customer promotions tailored to the surge in movement, entertainment, and tourism.
Chief Diana Chen, Chairman of LagRide, emphasized that this expansion is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the company’s presence in the transportation and tourism landscape of Lagos. She noted that the influx of new vehicles aims to enhance customer service while also creating more opportunities for professional Captains to earn a stable income.

LagRide is committed to being a leading player in transportation and tourism within Lagos, ensuring that its service matches the city’s vibrant energy and scales effectively to meet growing demands.
Ekanem highlighted that the company’s 24-hour customer service center would continue to provide comprehensive support for inquiries, complaints, and lost items. Additionally, LagRide leverages the service infrastructure of CIG Group and GAC Motor, maintaining several maintenance centers across Lagos to ensure vehicle reliability.
The deployment is also expected to increase participation in LagRide’s Drive-to-Own program, which allows Captains to progress toward vehicle ownership after an initial 90-day rental period, contingent upon meeting performance standards.
Ifeanyi Abraham, LagRide’s Director of Public Relations, encouraged newly inducted Captains to embrace their roles with professionalism and pride in representing LagRide. He also stressed the importance of highlighting LagRide’s impact on transportation, technology, tourism, job creation, and economic empowerment in the media.

In discussing customer safety and experience, LagRide affirmed that the expansion will be backed by its existing technology and safety measures, including vehicle insurance, dashboard cameras, and panic buttons integrated into its digital platform. The quality of customer experience, Captain professionalism, vehicle maintenance, and technology will remain at the forefront as the fleet and network of Captains grows.
The newly recruited Captains shared their enthusiasm for the opportunities provided by LagRide. Deborah Adeyemi, with three years of experience, expressed gratitude for the flexibility and income potential. Mustapha Kayode Abdullahi highlighted his goal of achieving sustainable income and ultimately attaining vehicle ownership through the Drive-to-Own initiative.
With 400 new vehicles, over 2,000 already operational, more than 100 Captains launched at the event, and a target of over 1,000 additional Captains by December, LagRide is significantly boosting its capacity ahead of the Ember Rush.
