Speaking to FIFA.com after the match, Olowookere described the loss as painful but emphasised the valuable experience his players gained throughout the tournament.

“Honestly, it’s quite painful. We came into the game with the mindset of doing something special, making sure that we win and progress to the next stage,” Olowookere stated.

He noted that the team held their ground for a significant portion of the first half before conceding just before the break.

“Unfortunately, we held the game for 44 minutes before the painful goal came in, and it was all squandered in the second half. It’s one of those things,” he added.

Despite the result, the coach believes the international exposure will be crucial for his players’ development.

“The players gained a lot of experience. Going to the World Cup, having met many other nations, many other players… those experiences go a long way to help their careers and to make them superstars in the future.”
