Mozambique to face Super Eagles in AFCON 2025 Round of 16

Mozambique will take on the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Cameroon in their final group-stage match on Wednesday.

Nigeria finished as Group C winners with a flawless record of three victories from three matches, while Mozambique progressed as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams from Group F.

The knockout encounter is scheduled for Monday night at the Fez Stadium, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

Mozambique made an encouraging start against Cameroon, stunning the Indomitable Lions with an early opener from Geny Catamo.

The Sporting CP winger cut inside from the right flank and fired a powerful effort beyond goalkeeper Devis Epassy, giving Mozambique a surprise lead.

However, Cameroon drew level through a freak moment when defender Nenê inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. The comeback was completed in the second half as Kofane struck a sensational long-range goal to seal a 2-1 win for the five-time African champions.
