Hon. Olowa donates ₦1 million to First Baby of 2026 at Ibeju-Lekki General Hospital

 

In continuation of Lagos State’s annual tradition of celebrating new life at the start of the year, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday visited Ibeju-Lekki General Hospital, Akodo, to welcome the first baby born in 2026.

The First Lady was warmly received by the Chairman of Conference 57 and Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, alongside the wife of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluremi Hamzat.

The visit marked a symbolic and joyous beginning to the new year, celebrating hope, renewal, and the promise of a brighter future for Lagos State.

On behalf of the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Olowa announced a donation of ₦1 million to the newborn, describing the gesture as a commitment to supporting families and encouraging safe childbirth within government health facilities.

The First Lady also presented gifts to the baby and the proud mother, further adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

The event was attended by representatives of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), including Mrs. Adetoun Balogun and Alhaja Oyedele, as well as health officials, community leaders, and well-wishers.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. (Mrs.) Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s unwavering commitment to maternal and child healthcare, stressing the importance of accessible and quality medical services for all residents.

She described the birth of the New Year baby as a symbol of hope, renewal, and prosperity, urging expectant mothers to utilise government health facilities and maternal health programs designed to reduce infant and maternal mortality.

The First Lady emphasised the need for sustained collaboration between the state government, local councils, and host communities to build a healthier Lagos.

She noted that initiatives like the New Year baby celebration align with the administration’s broader efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve service delivery across the state.

The annual visit once again highlights the Lagos State Government’s focus on the wellbeing of mothers and children, reinforcing its vision of a healthier and more inclusive Lagos as the state steps into 2026.
