The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, has reported the arrest of at least 97 individuals linked to alleged criminal activities across various regions of the state.
The agency stated that the suspects were involved in a range of offenses, such as kidnapping, burglary, robbery, and breaches of the anti-open grazing law, among others.

On Sunday, the state commander of the Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adeleye, discussed the situation, revealing that these arrests took place during operations conducted over the past two weeks.
Adeleye noted that some of the detainees were recognized as members of gangs responsible for armed robbery and kidnapping, operating in areas such as Ikare Akoko, Akure, and Ilu-Abo, among others.
He explained, “We have arrested a total of 97 suspects across all 18 local government areas of Ondo State in the last 14 days. Some of them were apprehended directly linked to kidnapping, while others breached the anti-open grazing law. Additionally, some were caught for burglary and robbery, and others in connection with car theft.

“We have disrupted a syndicate that has been active in Ondo State. Several stolen vehicles and key suspects have been captured. We also have individuals who admitted to being informants and suppliers for kidnappers in the forest, along with confirmed members of kidnapping gangs.”
The Amotekun commander further indicated that some suspects were found in the forest with personal items, suggesting they were residing there unlawfully.
“I would like to inform the public about a concerning new trend we’ve observed. It involves women of various ages traveling into the remote forests with household items, such as utensils and bedding.
“During questioning, they confessed they were escaping security issues in the North and acknowledged being invited by members of certain northern groups to disrupt the previously peaceful situation in southern Ondo State.
“One suspect claimed to have invited only two workers, yet those two brought along 51 others. This individual confirmed that he only requested two people. These newcomers arrived in the forest carrying numerous goods to an unfamiliar area, which raises significant suspicions,” the commander stated.
