The remains of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, departed London on Tuesday morning aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, en route to Daura, Katsina State, where he will be laid to rest in a state burial befitting his status as a two-time leader of the country.

The late president, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, at the age of 82 in a London hospital, will be interred according to Islamic rites in his hometown, as part of solemn ceremonies being coordinated by the Federal Government.
Tinubu to Receive Buhari’s Body in Katsina
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed on Monday that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will personally receive Buhari’s remains when they arrive at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Airport, Katsina.

Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja, Idris revealed that the burial activities are being managed in close consultation with the Buhari family and traditional authorities in Katsina.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will personally receive the remains of the former President in Katsina. The body will be flown directly to Daura, where final interment will take place,” Idris said.

Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently in London, leading a high-powered Federal Government delegation to oversee the repatriation and final documentation related to the former president’s passing.
