Canadian pole vaulter and Olympic bronze medalist Alysha Newman has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) due to whereabouts failures.
The AIU, which oversees integrity issues in international athletics, issued the suspension after Newman allegedly violated anti-doping rules. A whereabouts failure can occur when an athlete fails to submit their location for out-of-competition testing, provides inaccurate information, or is not available for a test at their declared location.

A provisional suspension temporarily bars an athlete from participating in any competition or official activity until a final decision is reached following a hearing under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules.
Newman is one of Canada’s most decorated track and field athletes. She captured the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, becoming the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic medal in the pole vault. Her vault of 4.85 meters during the event also established a new Canadian national record.
