The Chinese government has issued a warning to its citizens residing in Nigeria, urging them not to partake in illegal activities, particularly in mining.
In an interview following a meeting with Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai emphasized this warning. The governor had previously expressed concerns during his speech about the involvement of some Chinese nationals in illegal mining operations in the state.

Ambassador Dunhai highlighted that while his government and the Embassy welcome Chinese investors to Nigeria, they do not condone any illegal mining activities. He stressed the importance of adhering to local laws.
“We strongly encourage Chinese businesses to invest in Nigeria, as we view it as a land of great potential and the largest market in Africa. Our aim is to support the local economy, create jobs, and contribute to development.”
He noted that the Chinese government and Embassy maintain a strict stance against any illegal activities, including mining, asserting that compliance with local regulations is expected.

He pointed out that Ogun State, being Nigeria’s industrial hub, hosts numerous Chinese firms that produce a wide range of goods for both local and international markets.
The governor expressed his administration’s openness to collaborate with Chinese investors in sectors such as agriculture, transportation, and solid mineral exploration, hoping to provide mutual benefits. He encouraged Chinese investors to leverage the favorable business climate, friendly populace, and necessary infrastructure in the state, assuring them of full support from his administration.
