The incident gained traction after disturbing videos surfaced on the social media platform Naija Confra, which frequently documents cult-related activities.

One of the widely shared clips showed the victim lying helplessly on the ground in blue jeans and a white shirt, struggling in pain.

Another video revealed scenes of chaos, with terrified residents running for safety as gunshots rang out in the background. Photos also emerged showing another individual with a severe gunshot wound to the leg.

According to reports from the Punch, the unrest claimed lives on both Monday and Tuesday, with additional attacks recorded in the Iya Alagbo area.

When contacted, the Lagos Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, acknowledged the inquiry and indicated that information would be provided in due course.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the police had not released an official statement.

Unverified social media posts claim that security operatives have made arrests connected to the clash, but these reports remain unconfirmed.

Recurring Pattern of Cult Violence in Lagos Communities

The latest Awoyaya incident adds to a troubling rise in cult-related killings across Lagos State. Less than two weeks ago, gunmen suspected to be cult members opened fire during a masquerade festival in Orile-Iganmu, leaving at least three people dead.

A similar outbreak of violence occurred in September on Lagos Island, where another masquerade celebration turned deadly following clashes between alleged rival cultists—also resulting in three fatalities.
