According to reports circulating online, the cleric claimed he had intervened spiritually on the singer’s behalf and advised Osupa to buy a large ram for special prayers to avert the foretold outcome.
The prophecy sparked widespread debate on social media, with fans and colleagues expressing concern and condemning what many described as fear-mongering and irresponsible religious pronouncements.
Osupa addressed the issue directly during a live performance on Sunday, January 11, making it clear that he had no regard for the prediction. In a strong and emotional response, the Fuji star openly rebuked the cleric before his audience.
“Fake alpha and prophet, please don’t wish me dead,” Osupa said.
“Everyone who wishes me dead will die in my place.”
His remarks were met with loud cheers from the crowd, reflecting public support for the musician’s stance.
Osupa’s response has since gone viral, reigniting conversations about the role of religious figures, the impact of public prophecies on individuals, and the need for accountability when making sensitive claims about life and death.
The Fuji icon, widely respected for his decades-long contribution to Nigerian music, has continued with his performances and public appearances, showing no signs of being affected by the controversy beyond his firm rejection of the prophecy.
