🔗 Join Our ChannelIn a press release on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) stated that the operation was part of a structured effort to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
The collaboration has resulted in “precision hits on terrorist targets in Nigeria by air strikes in the North West,” the ministry said.
The MFA detailed that the bilateral partnership involves intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other support measures.
These actions are conducted in accordance with international law, mutual respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty, and a shared commitment to regional and global security.
The ministry also stressed that all counter-terrorism operations prioritize the protection of civilian lives, national unity, and the rights of all citizens, regardless of their religion or ethnicity.
This confirmation came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced on social media that the United States had carried out “powerful and deadly strikes” against Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Nigeria on Christmas Day.
Trump stated the operation was conducted “at my direction as Commander in Chief” in response to ongoing attacks. He accused ISIS-affiliated fighters in Nigeria of “viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians.”
The Nigerian government’s statement reiterated its commitment to working with international partners to dismantle terrorist networks and enhance its own security capabilities.
