Former Agriculture Minister, Audu Ogbeh dies at 78

The family of Audu Innocent Ogbeh has announced the death of the former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to an official announcement made through the eldest child of the family, Adegbe Ogbeh, Chief Ogbeh passed away peacefully in his sleep early Saturday morning at his home in Asokoro, Abuja.

Born on July 28, 1947, in Otukpo, Benue State, Ogbeh had a notable career that included academia, agriculture, and politics, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and dedication.

His family remembered him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose principled leadership influenced many lives and contributed to Nigeria’s progress.

Ogbeh served as Minister of Agriculture from 2015 to 2019 under President Muhammadu Buhari, advocating for agricultural reforms and food security initiatives.

He also held ministerial positions under President Shehu Shagari during the Second Republic, including Minister of Communications and Steel Development in the early 1980s.

His political journey included serving as the National Chairman of the PDP from 2001 to 2005 and as Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly.

An alumnus of King’s College, Lagos, Ahmadu Bello University, and the University of Toulouse in France, Ogbeh’s contributions to Nigeria will be fondly remembered for their lasting influence.
