I won’t endorse any candidate for 2027 primaries, Gov Sani encourages aspirants

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has stated that he has no preferred candidate for the upcoming 2027 party primaries and emphasized that he will not interfere in the candidate selection process.

Sani made this statement on Tuesday during a Ramadan breaking of fast event attended by members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

He urged politicians aiming for elected roles to focus on garnering support from party members rather than relying on influential figures. He noted that the primaries, set to take place between April and May, should reflect the will of party members.

“My counsel to anyone running for an office is to seek support from our party members. I do not have a designated candidate for the upcoming primaries, and I will honor the people’s decision,” he stated.

The governor underscored the importance of ensuring that the primaries are conducted transparently and credibly to foster party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He reiterated his commitment not to interfere in the selection process for candidates representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, adding, “I will not intervene in the primaries. Whoever is chosen through this process will have my full support.”

However, he mentioned that his only favored candidate is President Bola Tinubu, whom he promised to support for re-election in 2027.

Sani called on party members to maintain unity and collaborate for the success of the APC at all levels. He also cautioned aspirants who may not succeed in the primaries against undermining the party.

Reflecting on his past experiences, he shared that he was once marginalized during an APC congress under a previous administration when many of his supporters were denied positions within the party.

“During that time, some suggested that I oppose the party, but I chose not to, as I could not oppose a party I helped to establish. By God’s grace, I am now the governor,” he recounted.

The governor further warned that opposition parties could exploit any internal discord within the APC, particularly after the primaries, to weaken the party’s strength.

He asserted that the opposition might also leverage the nation’s security issues in their campaigns for 2027 but insisted that security in Kaduna State has improved since he took office in 2023.

Sani noted that his administration has reopened 535 schools and 85 health facilities that were previously shut down due to security concerns. He also mentioned ongoing work on the 35-kilometre Bagoma–Gagumi Road, which connects 62 farming communities in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, and that a contract for the Mando–Birnin Gwari Road project has been awarded.
