The Senate President emphasized that the campaign for Ibadan State stands out across Nigeria for its widespread backing. “Ibadan is an incoming state, the only one that is purely a product of the people’s desire,” he stated, confirming that the Senate would give it proper consideration.
While congratulating Oba Ladoja on becoming the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Akpabio hailed the monarch as “a blessing not just to Ibadanland but to the entire South-West.” He recognized the wisdom of the Ibadan people in electing Ladoja, highlighting his experience as a politician, entrepreneur, and administrator.
“Oba Ladoja is a patriot who will bring new ideas to the traditional institution in this region,” Akpabio remarked. “His leadership will lead to progress, benefiting the people of Ibadan immensely. His prior roles as a senator and governor will be invaluable in his new position.”
In response, Oba Ladoja thanked Akpabio for the visit and reinforced his people’s unified call for the establishment of Ibadan State. “My subjects have entrusted me to advocate for their interests, including state creation,” he noted, mentioning that he previously brought this request to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his installation.
“I reiterate this request today. My community desires Ibadan State, and I ask for your assistance in making it a reality,” the monarch urged.
He also advocated for the constitutional recognition of traditional institutions, calling for amendments to enhance their status and protect against arbitrary removal of traditions.
