The Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority (LSADA) has provided training to approximately 100 farmers and aspiring agro-exporters on the essential principles and prospects of agricultural exportation through its Rural Institution Development Component.
The one-day awareness workshop, titled “Unlocking Agricultural Products’ Potential for Exports,” took place at the LCCI Conference and Training Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, on Tuesday. The event aimed to equip participants with valuable knowledge on export readiness, quality assurance, international market standards, and utilizing government resources to tap into global markets.

During the event, Mrs. Aderonke Toju-Tubi, the Coordinating Director of LSADA, represented by Mr. Yunusa Babatunde Yussuf, Director of Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation, stressed the importance of preparing local farmers to compete on a global scale. She underscored the significant export opportunities available to them.

“The objective of this programme is to educate participants on how to adopt the latest technologies, explore key platforms, and comply with rules and policies that govern agricultural exports,” she said. “It also seeks to build their capacity to meet international standards, collaborate with global agro-exporters, and improve product quality.”

Mrs. Toju-Tubi emphasized that the state government views private sector involvement, particularly from agro-exporters, as essential collaborators in creating agricultural business opportunities for farmers and fishermen throughout Lagos.
Facilitator, Mr. Caleb Afuwape led the attendees through important subjects like export regulations, marketing strategies, product development, and standardization. He discussed the advantages of agro-exporting, which include access to foreign exchange earnings, resilient business prospects during economic downturns, and the chance to take advantage of free trade agreements.
