In a press statement issued on Monday, April 27, 2026, Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, said the publication’s report lacks any basis in truth and should be disregarded by the public.

“We have noted with concern a false report by Sahara Reporters alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been ‘ordered to resign on health grounds’ with the Deputy Governor set to take over,” the statement read.

Akosile affirmed that Governor Sanwo-Olu is in good health, of sound mind, and actively performing his constitutional duties as the Governor of Lagos State.

He explained that the only notable event involving the Governor and his Deputy earlier on Monday was a courtesy visit by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who formally notified Governor Sanwo-Olu of his intention to contest for the governorship.

“The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, as is customary,” Akosile stated.

The government accused Sahara Reporters of engaging in a pattern of disinformation and fake news, noting that this latest story fits into their established track record.

“While Sahara Reporters has a track record of publishing disinformation, we are issuing this clarification to prevent the public from being misled by deliberate falsehoods,” the statement added.

The Special Adviser urged Lagosians and the general public to ignore the Sahara Reporters publication and treat it as baseless fake news.

As of the time of this report, Governor Sanwo-Olu continues to discharge his responsibilities without any reported health challenges.

This development comes amid rising political activities in Lagos State as preparations for the next gubernatorial election gather momentum.
