Lagos state govt unveils six-classroom block at Ilashe community school

Dr. Hakeem Shittu, the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), officially opened a newly built six-classroom block at Ilashe Community School within the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Education Authority.

This new facility, provided by Verteville Energy Company Limited as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, was inaugurated on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Mount Zion Academy, Ilashe, Nani Village.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Shittu commended and appreciated the company for its contribution to the development of basic education in the state, describing the project as a symbol of hope for children in riverine and underserved communities.

“This project is more than just a block of classrooms; it represents a beacon of hope and a solid foundation for the future of our children in this hard-to-reach terrain. The company has provided a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning, giving our children the opportunity to thrive and compete with their peers anywhere in the world. This aligns with the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu,” he said.

Dr. Shittu assured that the State government remains committed to collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that no child is left behind in the pursuit of education. He further called on the host community to take ownership of the facility.

“We should see this building as our own. It is one thing to construct, but another to maintain and sustain. Protecting this facility from vandalism is the best way to show appreciation to the company. For whom much is given, much is expected,” he added.

Dr. Shittu emphasized the commitment of the State government to partner with various stakeholders to ensure that every child has access to education. He also urged the local community to take responsibility for the upkeep of the new building.
