Geographically, Alimosho Local Government Area experienced the highest number of emergencies with 180 incidents. Eti-Osa and Ikeja were the next most affected areas, with 144 and 139 cases, respectively.

Despite the fatalities, LASEMA’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit successfully rescued and treated 1,924 victims between January 1 and December 30, 2025. The agency’s report detailed that the rescued individuals included 906 adult males, 1,003 adult females, 13 boys, and two girls.

The 173 recorded fatalities comprised 139 adult males, 32 adult females, and two boys.

Looking ahead, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, affirmed the agency’s readiness for 2026. Speaking at a staff retreat on Friday, he stated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has provided the necessary support to enhance the agency’s disaster mitigation capabilities.

Oke-Osanyintolu explained that the retreat was designed to both commend staff for their 2025 efforts and prepare them for the challenges of the new year.

“Our chosen theme at this year’s off-site gathering, ‘Building a Resilient and Efficient LASEMA: Strengthening Preparedness, Response and Recovery in Lagos State,’ speaks directly to the role each of you plays quietly every day, often behind the scenes, yet critically important,” he said.

He emphasized that the agency’s true strength is its personnel. “Let me state clearly that LASEMA’s strength is not in its equipment, technology, or leadership titles. The agency’s strength lies in the commitment, discipline, and professionalism of its workforce, especially our junior staff,” he added.

Reaffirming the agency’s mission, Oke-Osanyintolu noted that LASEMA is prepared to protect lives and property across the state, with a focus on both infrastructure and the welfare of its first responders.

He also called for greater public cooperation to reduce the frequency of emergencies. “As much as the government is doing its part, residents must also partner with us and understand that their safety should be paramount,” Oke-Osanyintolu urged, advising Lagos residents to avoid unsafe practices that could lead to preventable disasters.
