The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to skit makers, influencers, and other digital content producers, cautioning them against using children in ways that compromise their safety, dignity, and overall well-being.
In a statement released on Monday, the government emphasized that while creativity is encouraged, it must not infringe upon the fundamental rights of children. It highlighted that minors are legally entitled to protection from harm, both online and offline.

Officials noted that the expanding reach of digital platforms places a greater responsibility on creators to adhere to legal and ethical standards.
“Creativity must never come at the expense of a child’s safety, dignity, or well-being,” the statement declared.
The government cited the Lagos State Child Rights Law, which protects minors from abuse, exploitation, and exposure to harmful content. It warned that any violations of this law would lead to legal repercussions.

“Safeguarding minors is not optional; it is a legal and moral duty,” the statement continued, underscoring that the law is explicit about children’s rights.
Lagos State urged producers to ensure that any content featuring children is educational, empowering, and completely harmless. It also called on the public to report any instances of child exploitation they observe on digital platforms.
The government concluded with a call to action for all residents: “Child protection is everyone’s responsibility. See it. Say it. Sort it.”
