The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has called on residents not to spare those who sell counterfeit and substandard goods, stressing that such individuals show no regard for human lives.
In a strong message to the public, the agency urged citizens to take immediate action the moment they notice a fake product. “Don’t spare them since they don’t value lives. The moment you notice a fake product,” the agency emphasised, encouraging swift reporting to protect consumers and hold offenders accountable.

The helpline covers a wide range of consumer issues, including:
- Fake or counterfeit products
- Expired or adulterated goods
- Defective items
- Misleading advertisements
- Unfair business practices
- Poor services
- Online shopping disputes
Solebo advised complainants to support their reports with verifiable evidence such as receipts, invoices, photographs or videos of the product, product labels, proof of payment, and screenshots of transactions or conversations with sellers. He stressed that formal complaints enable the agency to investigate thoroughly and take enforcement action, rather than relying solely on social media posts.
The agency further urged consumers to remain vigilant when shopping. Buyers should carefully check product labels for manufacturer details, manufacturing and expiry dates, batch numbers, ingredients and usage instructions. They are also advised to verify sellers, prices and terms before making payments, especially for online purchases.
LASCOPA reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance against traders and manufacturers who endanger public health through the sale of substandard goods. The agency continues market surveillance, laboratory testing and collaboration with other regulatory bodies to sanitize the marketplace.
Residents are encouraged to use the available channels without delay. By reporting promptly, Lagosians can help protect themselves and others while supporting the government’s efforts to ensure that only genuine, safe products reach consumers.
