Liverpool begin title defence with first win of the season in 6 goal thriller

The English top flight football kicked off on Friday, 15th August 2025 as the defending Champions hosted Bournemouth in a thrilling affair at Anfield.

The game has started out quite slowly between both sides with Bournemoth seeming more threatening in the opening minutes.

However, the deadlock was finally broken in the 37th minute as new signing, Hugo Ekitike opened up the scoresheet for Liverpool to put them into the lead going into halftime.

Second half began with more intensity for the home side as Ekitike again, tried to put Liverpool ahead but the efforts paid off through Coady Gakpo as his stunning strike doubled their lead.

Bournemouth however refused to let down their guard as Semenyo tried to pull a comeback after reducing the deficit in the 64th minute and scoring the equaliser in the 76th minute.

Liverpool, Champions for a reason, regained the lead just two minutes before the 90th minute as a scramble in the box led to Chiesa giving them the lead.

Salah in the 4th minute of extra time put the icing on the cake as his right footed strike sealed the game for the reds who never walk alone.

Salah’s goal now means that he has scored in every opening day fixture he’s been featured in.

The Opening game of the season did not fail to deliver its magic and also featured a tribute to Liverpool’s no 20, Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, in the 20th minute.

Matchday 1 continues on Saturday 16th August 2024 as Aston Villa take on Newcastle while Brighton would have a date with Fulham.

Notthingham Forest would host Brentford with newly promoted Sunderland hosting West Ham.

Spurs off their Super Cup defeat take on Burnley while Man City would be away at Wolves.
