Makoko demolitions: Police Disperse Protesters with Teargas at Lagos State Assembly

Police officers in Lagos State deployed teargas on Wednesday to break up a protest at the state’s House of Assembly complex. The demonstrators had gathered to voice their opposition to widespread demolitions occurring across several local communities.

The protesters, representing areas including Makoko, Owode Onirin, Oworonshoki, Otumara, and Baba-Ijora, converged on the assembly to condemn the government’s actions. They accused state authorities of proceeding with the demolitions without proper community consultation, fair compensation, or viable resettlement plans for those displaced.
