Chelsea centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo made a return to Nigeria this summer, it wasn’t just another off-season holiday; it was a deeply personal journey to reconnect with his heritage.
The 26-year-old defender, who was born in London and raised in Manchester, revealed in a recent interview on Arise News that while his father hails from Lagos State, his mother is proudly Ekiti-born.

“My mum is from Ekiti,” Tosin said with a smile.
He continued, “Our plan is to go there and look around where my mum was raised and lived. My brother probably knows better than me. My dad is from Lagos.”

Though he has spent most of his life in England, where he graduated from Manchester City’s famed academy, Tosin’s recent visit to Nigeria showed that he holds his Nigerian identity close and is now taking steps to learn more about it.
During his time in Nigeria, Adarabioyo also paid a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos State Government House.
The symbolic meeting, which underscores Tosin’s Lagos roots, was seen by many as a bridging of two worlds, that of global football and local pride.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the defender on his achievements and encouraged him to be a role model to aspiring athletes across the state.
From Manchester to Stamford Bridge
Tosin Adarabioyo rose through the ranks at Manchester City, making his senior debut under Pep Guardiola before moving to Fulham, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders.
