The Lagos Chapter of the National Association of University Students (NAUS) has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the pressing challenges facing university students in the state, including drug abuse and other social vices, by partnering with media professionals and key institutions to amplify its mission.
During a visit to Radio Nigeria, Broadcasting House, Lagos, the NAUS Lagos Chapter President, Comrade Shakiru Olatunde, emphasized the association’s determination to project and address issues affecting students across the state’s tertiary institutions.

“The student body is plagued by challenges that go beyond the classroom. It is our duty not only to represent them but also to advocate for sustainable solutions,” Olatunde stated.
Olatunde said the aim is to create a collaborative front that not only highlights students’ concerns but also proposes practical solutions through communication, policy engagement, and community outreach.
NAUS Lagos PRO Lukman Olawale, highlighted the association’s broader goals which include promoting access to university education, improving student welfare, and providing pathways to scholarships, mentorship, and internships for undergraduates.
He said the outreach also extends to secondary schools, where NAUS hopes to inspire young students to pursue higher education despite increasing social and economic pressures.
The Director Lagos Operations of FRCN, Dr. Bolanle Owoyemi, commended the association’s efforts and expressed the organization’s readiness to partner with NAUS on youth development initiatives.
“Social vices such as drug abuse among youths are a growing concern. We are prepared to support NAUS in combating these issues and creating safer, more productive school environments,” Dr. Owoyemi remarked.
NAUS, known nationwide for its dedication to justice, peace, and academic excellence, continues to be a crucial voice for students. Through partnerships with media and institutions, the Lagos chapter is setting a proactive example of student-led advocacy and civic engagement in Nigeria.
