The Nigeria Police Force has assured the public of ongoing security vigilance throughout the nation in light of escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their potential global repercussions.
In a statement released on March 1, 2026, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu reiterated the Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring national peace.

🔗 Join Our ChannelThe statement highlighted that, while Nigeria remains stable and its internal security is under control, proactive and intelligence-led policing strategies are being enhanced across the country. Police Commissioners in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory have been instructed to increase surveillance and intelligence efforts.
The IGP pointed out that particular focus will be on the North West, North East, and North Central regions. Police in these areas have been tasked with improving cooperation with traditional and religious leaders, boosting police presence around places of worship and public venues, and swiftly addressing any attempts by individuals or groups to exploit global events to incite unrest or sectarian discord.

The Police leadership stressed that Nigeria will not serve as a battleground for foreign conflicts, warning that any attempt to introduce external ideological or religious issues into the country will be met with serious legal consequences.
The IGP also urged community leaders across the nation to foster peaceful coexistence and called on citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding. Nigerians were encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
