Olowa to launch Automated Street Numbering and GIS Data Capturing in Ibeju-Lekki

 

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, will on Friday, officially flag off an automated street naming and Geographic Information System (GIS) data capturing exercise across the council area.

The initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s 20-Year Development Plan (2024–2044), which seeks to transform Lagos into a sustainable and globally competitive urban hub.

Ibeju-Lekki, known for its blend of coastal towns, rural communities, and rapidly expanding urban developments, is set to benefit from the project through improved infrastructure planning, urban growth management, and service delivery.

According to the council, the GIS and street numbering exercise will deliver multiple socio-economic benefits, including: Improved emergency response and public safety, Enhanced logistics and service delivery, Better urban planning and infrastructure development, Economic empowerment and property value appreciation, Stronger community identity and access to social services

Olowa Speaks on the Vision

Chairman Olowa emphasised that the project would reposition Ibeju-Lekki for the opportunities that lie ahead.

“This is not just about naming streets; it is about building structure, order, and accessibility for our people. With GIS mapping, we are laying the foundation for smart urban growth, improved safety, and an economy where every resident can be reached,” Olowa said.

He further noted that the project will help integrate rural settlements into modern development plans, ensuring no community is left behind.

The initiative is expected to serve as a model for other local governments in Lagos, particularly those grappling with rapid urbanisation and infrastructural demands.
