Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has appealed to the United Nations (UN) and global human rights organizations to look into the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15.
The governor made this request on Monday while welcoming the rescued students and their teachers at his office in Ibadan.
Makinde emphasized that the details surrounding the kidnapping are serious and atypical, warranting an independent international investigation.
He insisted that the event should not be regarded as a routine security issue, highlighting the need for a thorough examination of the facts.

“I urge international human rights and accountability organizations, including those within the UN, to carefully investigate the circumstances surrounding these abductions,” stated the governor.
Makinde affirmed that he is making this request as the Governor of Oyo State, characterizing the incident as one that requires international attention and accountability.
