Oyo Police arrests suspected kidnapper, rescues 20-year-old Farmer

The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended a suspected member of a kidnapping gang linked to the abduction of a 20-year-old farmer from Igboti village in the Oorelope Local Government Area.

The suspect, 23-year-old Yahaya Auta, was captured following a coordinated operation initiated after the incident was reported to the Okaka Police Division on June 19.

According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the victim was taken at around 1 a.m. by approximately eight armed individuals who attacked Igboti village via the Okutalogun route. The assailants, armed with guns and cutlasses, reportedly abducted the farmer and fled to an unknown location.

The gang allegedly also stole ₦1.24 million and 50,000 CFA during the attack.

In response to the situation, Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga ordered an extensive manhunt involving police operatives, Amotekun personnel, and local hunters.

The collaborative security team searched surrounding forests and nearby communities to rescue the victim and apprehend the kidnappers.

The police stated that forensic investigations and intelligence-gathering efforts led to Auta’s arrest, which was confirmed during initial inquiries.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to being part of the gang and is currently aiding investigators in identifying and capturing other members of the group.

The Command reported that its Anti-Kidnapping Squad has intensified efforts to rescue the victim and dismantle the criminal organization.
