Speaking on Channels Television on Wednesday night, Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesperson of the ADC, explained that while Obi is an active and longstanding participant in the party’s coalition, he has not formally registered as a member of the ADC.
“Peter Obi has been part of the coalition from day one. He has attended almost every meeting of the coalition,” Abdullahi said.

Abdullahi went on to explain that Obi sought permission to remain within the Labour Party during the 2023 general elections, as he was already a presidential candidate under their platform.
“The reason Peter Obi has not come into the ADC as a card-carrying member is because he asked for leave to allow him complete the election that his people were involved in Labour Party,” he added.

He also mentioned that the same courtesy was extended to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, who was allowed by ADC leadership to complete his political journey within his existing party at the time.
“Peter Obi is a member of the coalition, but not a card-carrying member of the ADC,” Abdullahi clarified.
The revelation comes amid increasing speculation about Obi’s political future ahead of the 2027 elections, as various opposition figures and parties explore realignment options to mount a strong challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
