Two Colombian women have been rescued from a human trafficking ring in Lagos by the Nigeria Police Force.
The victims, Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa, were allegedly tricked into coming to Nigeria and were being held against their will by traffickers.

The rescue operation, carried out by the National Central Bureau (NCB-INTERPOL), Lagos Annex, was initiated based on actionable intelligence from INTERPOL-NCB in Bogotá.
CSP Ani Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, shared the information in a statement on August 29. The intelligence, received on August 26, 2026, revealed that the women had been deceived into traveling to Nigeria, where their travel documents were confiscated.

The police reported that individuals, believed to be Chinese nationals, suspected of orchestrating the scheme, fled the scene before the operatives arrived and are currently evading capture.
Upon receiving the intelligence, police conducted a discreet tracking operation and located the victims’ hideout in Lagos, rescuing them on the same day. The suspects fled upon noticing the approaching police team. The authorities are now working diligently to apprehend other members of the trafficking syndicate.
The rescued women are being kept safe and provided with necessary assistance. The Colombian Embassy in Accra is collaborating with NCB-INTERPOL to arrange accommodations for the victims and secure emergency travel documents for their return to Bogotá.
