'Reckless Abuse of Power' — Ilhan Omar Blast Trump over Illegal War with Iran

U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar has strongly condemned President Donald Trump over what she termed as “Illegal and unjustified war” with Iran, accusing him of bypassing Congress and dragging the United States into a dangerous conflict.

In a statement released Saturday, February 28, 2026 on her official X (formerly Twitter), Ilhan alleged that the president acted without congressional authorization or a defined national security objective.

According to her, President Trump was unilaterally dragging the nation into an illegal and unjustified war with Iran without congressional authorization, without a clear objective, and without any imminent threat to the United States. 

“This is a reckless abuse of power that puts both innocent civilians and American lives on the line for a conflict the American people do not want.” She wrote.

Drawing from her personal experience of growing up in a war-affected environment, Ilhan cautioned against the human consequences of military intervention.

“As someone who has survived the horrors of war, I know that bombs do not build peace or create stability. Military strikes will not make us safer; they will inflame tensions and push the region further into chaos,” she stated.

She further stated that she knew who would bear the cost of that decision— innocent civilians caught in the crossfire and the young service members sent into harm’s way.  the devastating human toll of another regime-change war. 

According to her, it represented the devastating human toll of what she described as yet another regime-change war.

“Already, children and families are paying with their lives. There is no moral or strategic justification for this bloodshed.” She cautioned.

Calling for immediate legislative action, Ilhan urged Congress to reclaim its constitutional authority over war-making powers resolution introduced by Representative To Khanna and Thomas Massie, aimed at limiting unauthorized military government.

“The American people are exhausted by endless wars built on false promises and paid for with American and foreign lives.  This unlawful operation must end immediately.” Ilhan concluded.
