President Bola Tinubu has called on state governors to redirect their focus from unnecessary flyover projects to initiatives that enhance the quality of life for citizens and bolster security.
While addressing the country’s security issues, Tinubu highlighted that the instability in neighboring countries such as Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger is exacerbating Nigeria’s challenges.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening the capabilities of forest guards and establishing state police forces, urging governors to effectively utilize the increased funding allocated to their states.
“The security problems in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger are only worsening our situation. That’s why we must empower forest guards and create state police,” he said.

He continued, “Governors need to understand that with the current high costs of operation, they should prioritize building essential roads and infrastructure instead of constructing flyovers in low-traffic areas, thereby improving accessibility for security agencies.”
Tinubu also pointed out that states are receiving significantly greater funding than before and noted, “No one is borrowing to pay salaries anymore. Pensioners are receiving their dues.”
He recognized the magnitude of the challenges facing his administration, stating, “The immediate challenges are vast. It’s a tough task, but I requested this role and I am ready to take on the responsibilities that come with it.”
