In the other semi-final, DR Congo and Cameroon played out a tense and largely uneventful match that appeared destined for extra time. However, Chancel Mbemba broke the deadlock in the 91st minute, heading home from a corner kick to clinch the win for his side.
The dramatic late goal eliminated Cameroon from contention for the 2026 World Cup and propelled DR Congo into the decisive final match.
Nigeria and DR Congo will now face off on Sunday for a chance to advance to the intercontinental playoffs scheduled for March of next year. Two World Cup spots will be available for the teams that emerge from that final stage.
