Super Eagles to face DR Congo in World Cup Playoff Final on Sunday

The Democratic Republic of Congo has secured a spot against Nigeria in the final round of the World Cup qualifying playoffs following a narrow 1-0 victory over Cameroon.

The Super Eagles had earlier booked their place in the final with a dominant 4-1 win against Gabon. Victor Osimhen scored a brace, adding to goals from Jerome Akor and Chidera Ejuke to seal a comprehensive victory for Nigeria.

In the other semi-final, DR Congo and Cameroon played out a tense and largely uneventful match that appeared destined for extra time. However, Chancel Mbemba broke the deadlock in the 91st minute, heading home from a corner kick to clinch the win for his side.

The dramatic late goal eliminated Cameroon from contention for the 2026 World Cup and propelled DR Congo into the decisive final match.

Nigeria and DR Congo will now face off on Sunday for a chance to advance to the intercontinental playoffs scheduled for March of next year. Two World Cup spots will be available for the teams that emerge from that final stage.
