Terrorists challenge govt’s claim about Kebbi schoolgirls’ rescue

Some of the militants holding kidnapped schoolgirls from Kebbi State have ridiculed the Nigerian government, asserting that the authorities had no part in the students’ release. They argue that it was only negotiations with “key individuals” that led to the girls’ freedom.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the schoolgirls were shown sitting on the ground, guarded by armed men. The captors asked them to confirm the current date and year, likely to demonstrate that the footage was recent.

Many of the terrorists appeared to be in military-style clothing and were equipped with brand new motorcycles, assault rifles, and other advanced weapons.

At one moment, a masked member of the group questioned the girls about their treatment. “Did we leave you hungry? Did we take care of you?” he asked. The girls replied, “Yes.” “Has anyone here spoken to you with ill intent?”
