A tragic multi-vehicle accident at Soka Junction on the bustling Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed two lives and left several others injured.
The Oyo State Police Command has pointed to reckless driving as the primary cause of the Saturday night incident.

The crash, which involved a truck, multiple cars, and pedestrians, unfolded around 10:10 p.m. in the Oluyole Local Government Area, creating chaos among commuters.
In a statement released on Sunday, state Police Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade provided details from the initial investigation. According to the report, a white HOWO truck, driven by Abdullahi Bashiru, was traveling at excessive speed when the driver lost control.
The truck, with registration number Gombe GEM 696 XE, subsequently plowed into other vehicles and pedestrians. Among the damaged vehicles were a Toyota Venza and a BMW.

“The Oyo State Police Command is aware of a tragic multiple-vehicle and pedestrian accident that occurred at Soka Junction, Ibadan, along the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at about 22:10 hours,” the statement confirmed.
“The command regrets to confirm that two persons lost their lives, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.”
Ayanlade added that a full investigation is now underway to determine the complete circumstances of the crash and ensure justice is served.
Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola, extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery.
He also urged all motorists to exercise caution, adhere strictly to traffic laws, and avoid speeding to prevent similar tragedies.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and called on the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely information.
