A 73-year-old Nigerian pilgrim, Mallama Aishatu Muhammadu, has passed away in Saudi Arabia while participating in the ongoing 2024 Hajj.
Mallama Aishatu, who hailed from the Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on Sunday. The incident occurred while she was traveling from Jeddah to Madinah, as confirmed by Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

In an official statement, Yusuf announced that he had extended the federal government’s condolences to the deceased’s family during a phone call with her brother, Umaru Jauro Koko.
“May Allah grant her Aljannatul Firdaus and give the family the fortitude to bear this loss,” he stated.

The NAHCON chairman also assured the family of the government’s full support. He confirmed that arrangements would be made to return her personal belongings, including her Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) and death certificate, through the Adamawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Commission.

Mallama Aishatu is survived by several children, grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. Among her relatives is Abdullahi Bello, a Divisional Officer with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Ganye Division.
She is the first Nigerian pilgrim reported to have died during this year’s Hajj.
