3SC edges Barau FC 1-0 to move third, close in on continental ticket

Shooting Stars Sports Club held on for a 1-0 win over Barau FC on Sunday, climbing to third on the table and moving within touching distance of a continental ticket.

The hosts came out firing early, with Lucky forcing Barau’s goalkeeper into action just five minutes in. His low effort looked destined for the back of the net but was turned away in what proved to be a warning shot for the visitors.

For the next 20 minutes, play opened up with end-to-end moments. 3SC pressed high and created pockets of space, while Barau FC responded with compact defending and quick counters. Neither side could find the final touch, as backlines on both ends held firm under pressure.

3SC striker Sodiq came closest in the 27th minute when he latched onto a through ball and found space inside the box. His shot, however, sailed wide of the post, letting Barau off the hook.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 41st minute. Lucky, who had been lively from the start, finished off a well-worked move with a composed strike to put Shooting Stars ahead. The goal sent the home crowd into cheers and gave 3SC the momentum heading into the interval.

Both sides came out after the break playing with more intensity, turning the game into a physical, end-to-end contest. Barau FC pushed for an equalizer and looked dangerous in the 62nd minute when a whipped cross found its way toward goal, but 3SC goalkeeper Elkanah pulled off a crucial save to keep his side ahead.

3SC nearly doubled their lead late on when Qamar Adegoke connected with a set piece, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Despite late pressure from Barau FC, Shooting Stars held firm to secure the 1-0 victory. The win takes 3SC up to third position, putting them on the verge of securing a continental ticket with the season entering its final stretch. 3SC will look to build on the momentum in their final away fixture.
