Former Nigerian Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar has cautioned Nigerians against the act of selling their votes for the upcoming 2027 general elections, deeming it sinful and prohibited.
He delivered this message during a Ramadan Tafsir at his home in Minna, where he emphasized the importance of treating votes as a vital means of choosing trustworthy leaders.

🔗 Join Our ChannelAbubakar stressed that vote selling not only undermines the democratic process but also contradicts Islamic principles. “Selling votes is against religion; your vote holds significant value, and it is Haram to sell it,” he asserted.
He also called on politicians to maintain decorum during the election period, advising them to refrain from hostility, slander, and negative campaigning.
Abubakar encouraged political participants to view elections as regular democratic contests, where there will be winners and losers, rather than treating them as a life-or-death situation.

Reflecting on the current conditions in the country, the elder statesman recognized the economic struggles many Nigerians face and urged Muslims to pray for the nation during Ramadan.
While acknowledging the tough economic climate, he praised wealthy individuals for their efforts to support the less fortunate during the holy month. “The economy is tough, and we find ourselves in a challenging situation. However, I’m glad to see those who are well-off helping those in need, and this should continue,” he stated.
Abubakar also encouraged Muslims to carry forward the teachings learned during Ramadan, urging them to stay devoted to the principles and values of Islam even after the fasting p eriod concludes.
