2027: My role is to make opposition leaders like Atiku and Obi uneasy, Wike says

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, announced that his goal for the upcoming 2027 general election is to create discomfort for opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, resulting in what he described as “high blood pressure” for them.

Speaking in Abuja during a tour of ongoing Federal Capital Territory projects, Wike emphasized that there is currently no significant opposing party in Nigeria.

Commenting on Osun State Governor-elect Ademola Adeleke’s recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu and himself, Wike stated that this reflects a growing “Rainbow Coalition” supporting the President as the 2027 election approaches.

He remarked, “When we talk about opposition, I don’t recognize what you call opposition. There is no effective opposition at this moment.”

Wike noted that while Adeleke is still a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he contested on a different platform due to party disputes but has now allied with Tinubu. He added, “In the coming weeks, expect to see this Rainbow Coalition rallying behind the President.”

Wike also predicted that the 2027 election would be “the easiest election,” reiterating, “I told you the 2027 election will be very straightforward.”

When asked if he was worried about how opposition leaders, especially Atiku and Obi, perceive his recent interactions with Adeleke, Wike dismissed their concerns as irrelevant. He stated, “I don’t care; their feelings are not my concern. I don’t want them to feel good. My goal is to ensure they are uncomfortable, which might lead to their high blood pressure. That’s my objective.”

Furthermore, he expressed his intention to exacerbate the internal issues facing the opposition, saying, “I will create more crises for them. That’s where I stand.”
