Terrorists kill soldiers, abduct over 100 women, children in Borno attack

In a deadly assault on the Ngoshe community in Borno State’s Gwoza Local Government Area, suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents abducted more than 100 women and children shortly after Muslims concluded their fast on Wednesday. The attackers also killed numerous soldiers, including the town’s chief imam and several local elders.

Local and security sources report that the insurgents initially targeted a military base belonging to the 82 Division Task Force Battalion before invading the town and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp. A security official noted that the terrorists outnumbered the troops, allowing them to ransack the community and the surrounding areas.

So far, nine soldiers’ bodies have been recovered, but the total number of civilian casualties remains uncertain. The attackers also set fire to armored tanks and military vehicles, seizing an undisclosed amount of ammunition. Many residents fled to nearby Pulka, creating concerns as refugees had just begun returning from Cameroon.

There are claims that insider information may have played a role in the well-coordinated attack. “The chief imam and some elders were killed, and over 100 women and children were abducted or are missing,” one source stated, emphasizing the severe impact of the raid on the community.
