She argued that the populace has been “deliberately impoverished,” with their financial resources depleted while food prices continue to soar. This economic pressure, she explained, makes even small material gestures from politicians highly influential among voters.

Yesufu stressed that opposition parties must connect with the electorate by addressing their daily struggles in a tangible way, noting that hunger often overshadows the capacity to engage with policy debates or political arguments.
“Citizens were deliberately impoverished, monies taken away from their pockets and food made expensive so that little tokens will matter to them,” she wrote.

“As we go into the 2027 election, the opposition must campaign to the people in the language the people will understand.”
“For those who need bread, give them bread with your picture on it. For those who need policies, give them policy documents with your picture on it,” Yesufu advised.
“A hungry man or woman cannot reason. He or she just wants the rumbling in their tummy to stop.”
