The Federal Government has approved ₦2 billion each as take-off grants for two newly established tertiary institutions, the Federal University of Science and Technology Epe, and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic Abuja.
The announcement was made during an inauguration ceremony in Abuja, highlighting the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to expanding access to higher education and strengthening research in science and technology.

Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, presented certificates of appointment to the pioneer leadership of the institutions and described the development as a major step toward improving the country’s tertiary education capacity.
According to him, the establishment of the institutions forms part of efforts to boost innovation, develop technical skills, and equip young Nigerians for global competitiveness.

“The establishment of these institutions goes beyond expanding tertiary education; it is part of our deliberate efforts to strengthen access to quality education and build national capacity in science, technology, and innovation,” Alausa said.
The Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, located in Epe in Lagos State, is expected to focus on research areas such as: Renewable energy, Climate change adaptation, Disaster risk management, and Sustainable agriculture

Meanwhile, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja, in the Federal Capital Territory, will prioritize technical education, innovation, and vocational training to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial and technological workforce.
Pioneer Leadership Appointed
At the ceremony, the education minister also inaugurated key principal officers for the institutions, including: Prof. Nosiru Onibon, Pioneer Rector, Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja and Prof. Adeola Oshikoya as Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe.
