2027: Saraki denies alliance with Tinubu

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has dismissed allegations that he is collaborating with President Bola Tinubu or the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while also absolving the president of any involvement in the political persecution he faced under the previous administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Thursday, Saraki addressed recent political narratives and clarified his relationship with the current administration.

When asked if he felt betrayed by Tinubu, Saraki stated it would be unjust to blame the president for the legal challenges he encountered during the Buhari era. “That’s not fair on President Ahmed Bola Tinubu because in those days of the former President’s administration, he didn’t have that say that they claimed he may have had,” Saraki explained.

He attributed his past troubles to his actions as Senate President, which he maintained were guided by the nation’s best interests.

“My issue with that administration is that I was doing what I felt was the interest of the country as the President of the Senate, and for doing those things, I was now persecuted,” he stated.

Saraki emphasized that Tinubu was not part of the executive decisions that led to his legal battles, including his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal and investigations into the Offa robbery.

“Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not part of those who took decisions and implemented going to Code of Conduct or Offa Robbery or forgery of the national assembly. That was the executive part of the government,” he added.

The former Senate President also firmly rejected claims of a current political alliance with Tinubu, stressing that he has not had any private meetings with the president.

“I’m not somebody that says things that I’m not going to do. Have you heard me since the president has been in power…? Nobody can tell you I’ve sat down to meet the president,” he said.

Highlighting his transparent approach to politics, Saraki refuted any suggestion of covert dealings. “I don’t go there at night; I am not a night person. If I am going to do something, I come out and beat my chest and say I am going to do it,” he concluded.
