Sheikh Gumi attributes recent Nigerian attacks to foreign interference

Notable Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi from Kaduna has raised concerns about a series of deadly attacks in Nigeria, suggesting that these may be the result of foreign intelligence activities rather than religious motives or local conflicts.

In his comments following recent violent events, Sheikh Gumi condemned the attacks in Maiduguri and Jos, referring to them as part of a disturbing trend of coordinated violence.

He pointed out that some Nigerians may be acting as “foot soldiers” for these outside forces, stressing that the violence is unrelated to religion.

On March 16, 2026, bomb blasts in Maiduguri resulted in at least 23 fatalities and over 100 injuries, all victims being Muslims.

Later, on March 29, 2026, gunmen struck the Gari Ya Waye community in Jos during Palm Sunday, leading to numerous deaths and injuries among Christians.
