Akanbi, 38, was arrested on April 15 following months of tracking across different countries.

β€œHe had fled to evade arrest after being declared wanted,” said AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh.

The suspect was formally transferred to the Zone 2 Police Command headquarters in Onikan for further investigation.

Police say Akanbi is linked to the killings of Prince Ademola Akinloye and Sheriff Ishola Salami in separate incidents within Lagos.

β€œThis case involves multiple murders, attempted murders, and destruction of property,” Jimoh stated.

Authorities allege the attacks, which occurred in the Eti-Osa axis, were coordinated and premeditated.

According to investigators, the suspect was previously declared wanted, along with several alleged accomplices.

Police say the suspect allegedly financed operations carried out by others.

The case gained renewed attention after the Inspector-General of Police issued a directive to reopen investigations.

β€œNew evidence emerged linking the suspect directly to the crimes,” Jimoh explained.

Fidelis Ogarabe confirmed that intelligence sharing played a key role in the arrest.

He said, β€œOur counterparts in the Benin Republic cooperated fully. After due process, the suspect was handed over and brought back to Nigeria.”

Items recovered from the suspect, including travel documents and mobile phones, are expected to support ongoing investigations.

The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to ensuring accountability in the case.

β€œNo individual, regardless of status, will escape justice,” Jimoh declared.
