Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has announced the approval of Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project, lauding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for this significant achievement. He shared this news on his official X account on Friday, calling the approval a crucial advancement in the city’s transportation infrastructure.
Sanwo-Olu expressed his gratitude to Tinubu and the FEC for their support, emphasizing the Green Line rail’s vital role in improving mobility throughout Lagos. The rail line, which will extend approximately 68 kilometers from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, will include around 17 stations at key areas such as Victoria Island and Ajah.

He mentioned that the initiative aims to greatly alleviate traffic congestion, with an initial capacity to carry up to 500,000 passengers each day, eventually increasing to about one million.
Additionally, the system will be able to handle up to 35,000 passengers per hour in both directions, thereby reducing travel times and enhancing connectivity between major economic centers.
