The Nigerian Federal Government is preparing for the voluntary return of Nigerians who wish to come back home amidst rising anti-immigrant sentiments that have led to the displacement of many foreigners and increased fears of xenophobic violence.
Starting Thursday, the registration and screening for this repatriation program has commenced, with authorities estimating that more than 1,000 Nigerians may take part.

On Friday, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa stated that while the final count of those seeking repatriation is still being determined, it is anticipated to surpass 1,000.
“Total figure not out yet. We are expecting over 1,000 persons,” Ebienfa informed AFP.
