She disclosed this on Friday in Awka, stating that the initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare and promote early detection of non-communicable diseases.

Dr. Soludo urged residents, particularly adults, to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that hypertension remains one of the most common and deadly health conditions in society.
“I encourage every adult to visit the nearest public health facility, get screened, know your blood pressure status, and take the right steps towards a healthier and happier life,” she added.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Health, Afam Obidike, said the programme would be implemented across Primary Healthcare Centres, Comprehensive Health Centres, and General Hospitals in the state.
He explained that health officials, including medical officers and facility heads, have been directed to ensure full compliance for effective delivery of the programme.

Obidike described hypertension as a major public health challenge, often referred to as a “silent killer” due to its ability to develop without noticeable symptoms while increasing the risk of severe complications such as stroke and heart disease.
He emphasized that early detection through regular screening remains one of the most effective ways to prevent and manage hypertension-related complications.
The state government reiterated that the initiative is part of its broader commitment to improving public health outcomes and encouraging a culture of preventive healthcare among residents.
